Looking back at this entire process, I can say that contributing to WordPress through the Polyglots area was a valuable learning experience.
At the beginning, everything felt unfamiliar and a bit confusing. I didn’t fully understand how the platform worked, and even simple tasks like finding strings to translate were challenging. However, as I spent more time exploring and practicing, I gradually became more comfortable and confident.
One of the most important things I learned is that translation is not just about changing words from one language to another. It requires understanding context, making decisions based on meaning, and sometimes adapting terms so they make sense for the user. This was especially noticeable when dealing with technical terms or strings with specific formatting.
I also learned how to approach problems more effectively. Instead of getting stuck, I used available resources such as checking other translations or researching online. This helped me improve both the accuracy and quality of my work.
Another important takeaway is the value of small contributions. Even though each translation might seem simple on its own, together they become part of a much larger project that helps make WordPress more accessible to people around the world.
Overall, this experience helped me develop new skills, improve my confidence, and better understand how open-source communities work. If I had the opportunity to do this again, I would feel much more prepared and probably explore even more ways to contribute.
This process not only allowed me to contribute, but also to grow as a learner and as someone who can be part of a collaborative project.
