At this stage of the process, I had my first contact with the WordPress translation platform. Honestly, it was my first time using translate.wordpress.org, so I had no prior experience and didn’t really know how everything worked.
At the beginning, the platform felt quite confusing. It wasn’t very clear where translations were actually made or how to find the strings that still needed to be translated. One of the main issues I ran into was that, by default, the platform shows many strings that are already translated, which made it harder to identify the ones that were still pending.
Luckily, we had already been introduced in class to what Polyglots is and how contributions work, which gave me a general idea of what I was supposed to do. Even so, I had to explore the platform on my own for a while before things started to make more sense.
As for the project I chose to contribute to, I worked on WooCommerce, which was recommended by my mentor. This made me feel more confident, since I knew I was contributing to a widely used project and also had some guidance behind my choice.
Over time, and with a bit of practice, I started to understand the platform better and was able to navigate more easily to the sections where I could begin translating. This initial experience was important because it helped me understand how the process works before actually starting to contribute.
