Challenges and Lessons Learned During Translation

As I continued working on translations, I started to face some challenges that made the process more interesting and, at the same time, more demanding.

One of the first difficulties I encountered was understanding certain placeholders in the strings, such as “%1$s”. At first, I didn’t know what they meant or if I was supposed to translate them. After looking into it, I realized that these are variables that must remain exactly the same in the translation, which was something new for me.

Another challenge was dealing with strings that had both singular and plural forms. This required me to think more carefully about how to translate each version correctly, instead of just focusing on a single phrase. It made me more aware of how language changes depending on context.

I also came across some technical terms that were not easy to translate. For example, words like “slider” are commonly used in UX, and I wasn’t sure whether to translate them or keep them in English. In those situations, I had to stop and think more critically about what would make the most sense for the user.

Whenever I wasn’t sure about a translation, I looked for help in different ways. I searched online and also used the platform’s feature that allows you to see how the same string has been translated into other languages or variations of Spanish. This was very helpful and gave me more confidence in my decisions.

Overall, I didn’t feel frustrated during this process. Instead, I saw each challenge as an opportunity to learn and improve. These experiences helped me better understand not only the platform, but also the importance of accuracy and context in translation.
